The Origin of Life
Training students in the
area of creation apologetics
This seminar, sponsored by Equipping and Training Christians, equips
high school students and adults to understand and evaluate the different beliefs about the
origins of life. The speaker/coordinator will be Mike Riddle,
who has taught at the Institute for Creation Research (ICR)
and developed their online curriculum, Creation
Online. The cost is $25 per student and $15 for additional family members.

What is an Equipping Seminar?
An equipping seminar is a Christian educational program designed to train students in the
area creation apologetics. It is designed to go beyond the traditional lecture style of
presenting information. An equipping course focuses on four different skills involved in
learning.
 | Reading - To discover new ideas and concepts
|
 | Listening - To be able to focus and
understand
|
 | Speaking - To be able to express ideas to
others
|
 | Critical thinking - To be able to discern
truth
|
The methods used in an equipping seminar are
based on principles used in:
 | Christian apologetics, so that we can reason
and defend our faith
|
 | Training athletes, so that we ourselves can
be trained by doing and not just hearing
|
 | Leadership and management training, so that
we can learn to investigate facts, problems, and needs
|
 | Computer network communications, so that the
encoding and decoding of information is not just understood, but acted upon
|
An equipping course provides students the
opportunity to:
 | Develop background knowledge on the subject
|
 | Develop critical and logical thinking skills
|
 | Build confidence in Gods Word
|
 | Become apologists
|
An equipping course will help train students
to become active and confident in their belief in a Creator God. It will train them to be
on the offense rather than always on the defense or helplessly silent.
What You Will Learn in this Course
This course will equip you to:
Identify and state differences between
microevolution, macroevolution, and natural selection by citing real examples used in
textbooks.
Identify why the Miller experiment was not a
success and give key scientific evidences why the origin of life by natural processes is
not credible.
State how the First and Second Laws of
Thermodynamics pertain to the origin of life and why evolution violates both laws of
science.
State why the enormous complexity and amount
of information in DNA and RNA is a challenge to the model of evolution.
State with confidence relevant science
questions that help clarify or challenge misleading or incorrect information in textbooks.
Course Topics
 | Session 1 - What is Evolution?
|
 | Session 2 - The Miller Experiment
|
 | Session 3 - The Second Law of Thermodynamics
|
 | Session 4 - DNA, RNA, and information
|
 | Session 5 - Session Wrap-up
|
Equipping Course Format
The Origin of Life equipping course contains four major sessions followed by a session
wrap-up. Each session uses the following format:
A full-group meeting where the session
leader presents an overview of the topic.
Participants break into small groups and
learn to recognize misleading or false statements in textbooks used to support evolution.
Participants also get the opportunity to practice asking valid science questions that can
help clarify or call into question misleading information in textbooks. Each group is
guided by a small-group leader.
Participants regroup for a debrief to answer
any further questions on the topic.
A short break for participants
In all aspects of the program, each student is
made to feel safe in being able to openly contribute information, whether correct or
incorrect. The purpose is to equip for success, not to grade, fail, or make anyone feel
they have fallen short of learning. Every gain in a student's ability to strengthen their
faith in God's Word and to equip them to be a witness is a success.
Participant Materials
Each participant will receive a manual that contains
 | A page outlining the goals or objectives of
each session
|
 | Information on each topic in the course
|
 | Supporting quotes from scientists
|
 | Questions that can be asked in a classroom
or in an open discussion
|
 | Quotes from science textbooks and questions
that help clarify or contradict the statement
