Idaho is full of great opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. From the
mountains to the deserts, the Gem State is full of beautiful scenery and outstanding recreation.
Vineyard Boise takes advantage of its surroundings throughout the year, as various church groups go on retreats, backpacking trips and whitewater adventures. But at the end of summer, the church invites everyone to come together and enjoy the beauty of the Sawtooth Mountains.
Vineyard Boise Family Camp is set for Aug. 17 to 20 at Camp Stanley, a wilderness outfitter camp on Alturas Lake. There's plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities for families to enjoy - hiking, fishing, canoeing - and the camp organizers plan games and activities, too.
Most of all, family camp is a time to take a break, relax and build relationships.
"Life is busy for people," says Bud Reberry, Vineyard Boise's family and children's pastor. "Family camp is a time to set aside just to relax and spend time with your family and get to know your church family, as well."
Bud said the ever-popular Camping Olympics will be back again, as families compete to see who's fastest at setting up camp, building a fire and casting their fishing line. And beyond Camp Stanley, there's plenty to see and do in the Sawtooth Valley.
There's also time for spiritual reflection, with family devotions, communion and worship around the campfire (complete with marshmallows!).
You don't need your own camping gear to attend - tent cabins are available for about 40 people - but people who have tents, campers and RVs and other camping supplies are encouraged to bring them.
