The Cross on top of Table Rock looking over Boise, Idaho

The Journey of the Cross

Celebrate Easter with us at Vineyard Boise

The Lord’s Supper
Thursday, April 8, 7:00 p.m.

At Vineyard Boise in the new Sanctuary

On this night we will tell three stories of the Passover: the first Passover in Egypt with Moses, a traditional Passover meal with a Jewish family, and the Last Supper as told by the Apostle Peter. Our gathering will end with a celebration of Communion.

bullet Childcare is available for kids five years old and younger. Please check them into the nursery where you will be provided with a vibrating pager in case your child needs you during the presentation.
bullet Children older than five are welcome to join us in the sanctuary for the presentation provided they are sitting with their families.
bullet Although the Passover is traditionally a meal, we will not be serving a dinner. We will be partaking in communion together at the end of the service.

The Walk to Calvary
Friday, April 9, 6:30 p.m.

Idaho Botanical Gardens, the Old Idaho Penitentiary, and the top of Table Rock

We will trace the steps of Jesus from the Garden of Gethsemane to Calvary. As the sun is setting, we will carry our cross to the top of Table Rock, where we will have an opportunity to identify our sins with the death of Christ. Along the way we will meet James and John, two of Jesus’ disciples. We will also meet Pilate who presided over the Jesus’ trial.

bullet The gate to the Idaho Botanical Gardens will open at 6:15 p.m. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Release of Liability forms

bullet To participate in the Walk to Calvary each individual must sign a Release of Liability form. Parents or guardians will need to sign for minors.
bullet A copy of the Release of Liability form is available in this packet. Additional forms will be available at the entrance gate of the Idaho Botanical Gardens where the Walk to Calvary will begin.
bullet All forms will be collected at the Idaho Botanical Garden entrance gate. This is your ticket for admission to the night’s events.

Things to know about the walk

bullet The walk is a 1000 ft climb over a ¾ mile distance. It is a workout, but most people should be able to complete the event on foot.
bullet We begin the walk at dusk but walk back down the Table Rock hill in the dark. Please bring a flashlight.
bullet There are no restroom facilities on the walk. There will be portable bathrooms available in the Garden and at the top of Table Rock.
bullet Please bring a water bottle or canteen for drinking on the hike.
bullet Last year was very windy on top of Table Rock. Please be aware of the weather conditions for Friday night and dress appropriately.
bullet Please do not deviate from the main path going up to Table Rock. We want to help preserve the mountainside.

Children

bullet There is no childcare provided for this event.
bullet Children are welcome to join us for the Walk to Calvary, however please be aware of the strenuous nature of the hike. Smaller children will want to be carried!
bullet Please keep your children with you during all stages of the night’s events.
bullet Please keep your children on the main path on the way up and down from Table Rock.
bullet Please keep your children away from the ledge on the top of Table Rock.

Sin Cards

bullet At the top of Calvary (Table Rock) we will be placing our Sin Cards in a wooden box at the foot of the cross. Two Roman guards will be bringing the box through the crowd so that everyone will have access to it.  A hymn is printed on the back of the sin card. You may want to hold on to the card until we have all sung together.
bullet Sin Cards are available in this packet. Additional cards will be available at the entrance gate of the Idaho Botanical Garden.

Transportation

bullet Vineyard Boise is providing two buses for transporting the elderly and those who would have difficulty with the physical hike. We have room for 88 individuals. Please sign up in advance at the church office to receive a bus voucher for this ride. This voucher will be your ticket to and from the Idaho Botanical Garden parking lot to the top of Table Rock and back.
bullet We will not make multiple trips with the busses.
bullet You are also welcome to drive to the top of Table Rock if you do not want to make the walk to the cross. A map is provided in this packet with the directions from the Idaho Botanical Garden parking lot to Table Rock. You can also follow the Vineyard Boise church van which will lead the procession of vehicles up the hill to Table Rock.
bullet If you plan to drive or need a ride please make arrangements with others to carpool. There is a limited amount of parking available at the top of Table Rock.
bullet Please follow the parking lot attendants’ directions in both the garden and the Table Rock parking lots.
