Why we worship the way we do...
The worship experience at the Vineyard might
not be what you are used to. People singing, raising hands, kneeling, clapping, or
even weeping during the music can be new to some. Yet these and other activities
are simply the natural reaction to God's presence, and are documented throughout the
scriptures.
Lifting Hands
As the worship begins, and the Holy Spirit touches hearts,
thankfulness and surrender sometimes causes us to lift our hands. "Yadah"
is the Hebrew word found in the Bible which was translated "Praise." It
actually means to worship with an extended hand. Examples of lifting hands in
worship are found throughout the Bible.
Clapping Hands
We believe there are times of great joy & celebration
in the church, and clapping our hands is an outlet for the release of our praise, (Psalm
47:1) If a touchdown is worthy of clapping at Bronco Stadium, certainly Gods' worthy
of our praise for the ultimate victory He has won!
Kneeling
As we realize who we are, compared to the greatness of God,
kneeling can become a natural, outward expression of meekness, humility & submission
(Psalm 95:6-7; Luke 5:8)
Worship
Jesus commanded us to worship Him, not just in spirit but
also in truth (John 4:24). We must worship only the true God, according to the truth
of the scriptures, and it must reflect the truth of who we are and where we are at.
If we need to cry, we cry (Luke 7:38). If He wants us to rejoice, we rejoice! (Psalm
149:2)
